E_Knocknarea_megalithic_monuments.jpgSligo has a great concentration of megalithic monuments, marvellous turn-of-the-century towns and great bays dominating the coastline. The beautiful Ben Bulben Mountain is visible for miles. Another great touring area for driving or cycling, the areaE_benbulben.jpg around Sligo has its share of marvellous landscape and ancient ruins, but was also the home of the Yeats family, of whom W.B. Yeats the writer and Jack B. Yeats the painter are the most renowned. This is a wonderful county for touring with many medieval and early Christian churches and Castles. Horse riders, walkers, divers and pub enthusiasts will enjoy this county.

The Blue Lagoon is a lovely pub in its idyllic location on the banks of the Garavogue River; its a real treat for any visitor to Sligo (Hotels, Sligo, Ireland). Enjoy drinks, lunch, teas, coffees and snacks in one of Sligos most original settings. Hargadons is a legendary pub with a wonderful E_blue_lagoon.jpgunspoilt interior. It has a fine beer garden, which offers a coolE_hargadon_pub.jpg place to relax, and delicious bar food is also available here. Another popular and trendy pub, The Belfry is situated in the centre of town. This beautifully stone-built pub has a finely appointed, well stocked bar. The popular main courses here are absolutely delicious, with Irish smoked salmon platter, house style Chicken Kiev, a very tasty fisherman’s platter and roast joint of the day served with roast vegetables and cream potatoes. All the food is made to order with an unhurried service and peaceful ambiance with live music. This is a cheery place to either start off or finish your touring journey. John Doddy’s Pub is a charming pub and has a very elegant interior. It is a very popular place among the locals and there’s always a great buzzE_cup_and_ring_marked_stones.jpg about the place. There is also a well appointed bar with Welsh quarry tiles, open fires, good comfortable walled seating and snugs. A great place at any time of the year.
